Oh yes, I have a blog....hmmm woops

Oh my poor blog...sitting here all alone and not updated.

Not that I'm so conceited as to think my presence in the blog community is sorely missed!

But everytime I see my neglected blog and its last post on "my favourite jacket" I get itchy with the need to update - for my own piece of mind I guess!

So not much to report aside from the fact my life has become so consumed with work it's all I think about, which is not good, but I guess you have to work your ass off if you want to get somewhere hey...

Not to worry, I have had some time to shop!

A little update on the things I've bought lately

* Kiehl's (always need to look up how to spell this, bloody confusing name) Acai Damage Repairing Serum. So far it's...OK. Which, quite frankly is not good enough KIEHL'S MMMM HMM. I may not have used it enough but I was expecting something miraculous from this range - can blame Dr Oz speaking on Oprah about the marvels of the Acai berry - but as yet I don't think it was worth the ridiculous amount of money I spent on this. Update to come!

* MAC Cranberry and Handwritten eyeshadows - Love them! I have wanted cranberry for a while - it can make you look a bit unwell but used correctly, it's pretty fabulous! And handwritten is a gorgeous dark brown, but let's face it, I just loved the name.

* A crapload of Gregory Ladner winter gloves in every colour imaginable. It was the mid-year sales OK, I have that excuse to hide behind...Yeah I'm not even fooling myself, I really didn't need gloves in black, brown, grey, maroon and red...I guess that's a different colour for each weekday thought right? :)

*Books! Benjamin Law's "The Family Law," which I read in a few days. Brilliant writer that Mr Law...self-deprecating, heartfelt and funny as hell. I'm also reading Mia Freedman's "The New Black."

Now I know there's more but I won't bore you with the rest!

Happy days everyone.

My Favourite Jacket

Now the weather is really starting to cool down, I've been bringing out my favourite jacket.

To me, wearing this jacket means autumn is really here - gorgeous golden leaves on the ground, cosy nights with a book and hot chocolate and in-depth knitting sessions!

It's the perfect jacket - I feel like it's very "me!" I always feel good wearing it, it's kind of like a clothing version of a comfort blanket. It evokes pleasant memories for me too, reminding me of my old uni days, catching the bus home in the early afternoon or walking in peak hour around the city, taking in the dim lights and general bustle of the people around me.

The brand is Quirky Circus, which I got from Myer and I have to say I think Quirky Circus is one of my favourite brands. They always have interesting pieces in the colours I like (dark!) It's a gorgeous red/maroon colour with some black thrown in - can't go wrong really!

Love at first sight I tell you!

My Pillowcase Dress

Nope, it's not made of an actual pillowcase...but according to my boyfriend, it looks like one.

He does like it though.

I'm talking about my new dress, a very girly floral number which is rather spring-weather-type attire (even though it's autumn, but what can you do?)and I'm pretty in love with it! Anywho...I must say in the fitting room when I tried it on, I wasn't too impressed but my friend liked it, so I bought it anyway. Under those harsh flourescent lights and mirrors that pick up every pimple, line and stray hair on your face, you don't feel too pretty in anything. But I really like how I put the outfit together. Let me show you how I wore it:

So here is the dress, which is from a shop called Most Wanted, the brand is Ladakh.

I wore it with my new shoes from Wittner; I love how they add a bit of edge to the girliness of the dress.

And the final look. Gosh I'm short.

I wore it with my Disney Couture gold envelope necklace, my favourite cream cardigan, and brown organic cotton socks!

Any suggestions as to what else I could wear with this dress?

My Favourite Jewellery

Note - I'm about to get a bit philosophical here, so please excuse my ramblings. It's just a way to make sense of some of the crazy thoughts I've been having!

After having a bit of a shopping spree this weekend, I realised something. It's very easy to get overwhelmed at the endless amount of choices that are presented to us and I'm not just speaking in reference to the main content of this blog, which is beauty.

It's everything - from the big questions like what am I going to do with my life, what job do I want, where should I travel - to the more mundane like what do I eat for lunch today, what book should I read and (now getting to the point of this post) what do I want to buy - do I buy this gold necklace or hmm, maybe I should go for the silver version...

Does it even matter?

Not really.

But why do we ponder so long and hard on this kind of stuff? I think it's because whenever we make a purchase we're making some kind of statement about the person we are. We buy clothes that reflect our moods, we try to display to the world the kind of person we are, or want to be. For instance, I just spent a day contemplating a pair of brown shoes I bought. I kept thinking, hmm I should have got them in black, it would have suited me better - pointless thoughts like this circled in my mind and took up way too much of my time. It seems so stupid and materialistic.

But I think it's also about control. There are so many things we have no say over. But we can dictate our appearance - we can change our hair colour, wear different clothes, put on makeup and so on. It's these things we can rely on to make ourselves feel better and make some sort of statement as an individual.

Yes this is getting a bit deep for a seemingly simple post about jewellery! I guess what I'm getting at is, there are so many avenues now to find these little extensions of ourselves - ebay, etsy and so on. How do you choose?!

So, here's a snippet of some of my favourite items that have some sentimental value and make me feel like "me."

But, of course it's still important to remember the fun of it! In the end, it's just material stuff.

So, ramble over - let's look at rings!

From left to right: black and white ring that I bought from Sportsgirl years before the store went through its massive overhaul, antique style ring from Diva, bow ring from Forever New, silver patterned ring (gift) and floral ring which I think is from Forever New.

As you can see, very different types there. I actually have to say my favourite is the chunky black and white sportsgirl one, which is the one I've had the longest.

Ah, my one and only Disney Couture piece, which my boyfriend bought for my birthday. Not sure why the photo keeps loading the wrong way...but anywho! It's called "A Royal Invitation" and even has a cute little gold letter inside it. It's actually quite a heavy necklace.

I've had this layered locket necklace for ages, can't remember where I bought it, probably from Diva. I love this - it brings me back to high school, I would often wear this to house parties. Ah, remember house parties - not to sound like an old woman but, those were the days!

On the left is a cool flower print necklace I got from Sportsgirl for only a few dollars, middle is a wooden heart necklace (reminds me of a cookie!) from Just Jeans and the antique style necklace, which looks like the ring I just showed you, was a gift from a friend.

I honestly do not remember where I got this necklace from, but I have had it since high school. I like wearing this with a cream dress, it makes the look a bit more edgy but it's still feminine with the black rose and ribbon woven through the beading.

This I bought from the markets, I just loved the quote on it. Very whimsy.

Bracelets: the brown, stretchy beaded cuff on the far left is from Target, on the right of that is a gold bracelet from Diva with a gorgeous deep blue ribbon woven through, bottom right is another stretchy one from Target, on the left of that is a Sportsgirl elastic bracelet with pastel pearls joined with a ribbon and in the middle is my favourite - a gorgeous, old-style floral patterned bracelet from Myer. I like wearing this with a navy dress and cream cardigan.

Ah funny story with the "faith, hope, love" bracelet. I fell in love with it after seeing it in one of those giftware/stationery stores. Bought it, wore it every day until...it broke. I was devo! I went back to the place, they didn't have it - searched everywhere for another one. Couldn't find it. Ended the search with a heavy heart. But months later I just happened to be at a Christian store looking for a present and there it was, sitting on a shelf. I couldn't believe it! So I snapped it up. Although I think I have been scarred by the incident and now hardly wear it because I think I'm scared I'm going to break it or lose it! So I just leave it on my dressing table for decoration - maybe I'll wear it again one day! In the middle is a Mickey Mouse bracelet, which my relatives got me from Disneyland and the one on the right is from Sportsgirl - I love how every piece on it is different.

So there you go - some of my favourite pieces in my jewellery collection.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Update

Hello hello!

I'm usually fairly consistent with my blogging so sorry I haven't posted in a little while. I've actually had quite a crazy week with work, getting a full-on experience of the world of journalism.

I should be back to the beauty world by the end of the week though!

Also, thank you so much all my lovely followers! 16 that's so, so awesome! It's nice to know some people find my blog a bit appealing, so thanks so much!

Happy Easter and Lady Gaga!

First of all, a very Happy Easter to everyone! I hope you all had a lovely long weekend and got to relax a little with your loved ones.

I'm ecstatic to say, I spent Easter Saturday night with Lady Gaga! Well not really "with her" with her, but I went to her concert and she was even more amazing than I thought she would be. It gave me goosebumps and I came out an even bigger fan than before. Brilliant, incredible, genius - I can't get over how amazing a performer she is, the room was just buzzing. Here are some photos of a few of her outrageous costumes (as you would expect) and some of her amazing set, complete with a burning piano.

I wore my blazer, black tights, a long, shiny black tank top (with a cool little lightening bolt on it) and heels.

I decided in the spirit of Gaga, I would try something out of my comfort zone and tried to emulate her prison look in telephone. I used Carly's tutorial as inspiration (if you haven't heard of her, you must check her out, she's so very talented) and while it didn't look anywhere near as good as hers, it did work. I had her video open and listened to it as I worked on my face - it actually relaxed me a little as I get really frustrated when I'm working on a more complex look!

Here's how it came out:

The round-up:

FACE

MAC Strobe Cream
Giorgio Armani Face Fabric #2
Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Light/Medium
MAC Honour

EYES
MAC Brule
MAC Folie
MAC Stubborn brown kohl liner
MAC Engraved kohl liner
Lancome Oscillation powerbooster
Shiseido mascara base
YSL Faul Cils mascara

LIPS
MAC Prep + Prime lip
Revlon Colourstay Lipliner in Wine
MAC Russian Red
MAC Viva Glam 1

When I looked in the mirror after I'd finished, I was pretty shocked and thought maybe it was too much and I should just resort to my normal nude lip combo - you know, play it safe! I felt really self-conscious most of the time but after I got past that, I actually felt OK - almost liberated in a way! That does sound rather lame, but it did feel kinda cool to do something over the top and not feel scared about it. Then you hear Gaga at the concert, someone who doesn't give a shit about what anyone thinks, saying things like "be whoever you want to be" and that kinda jazz - instantly you feel better and realise you shouldn't take yourself too seriously. Wow I'm really gushing aren't I! Anyway, bottom line is - total respect for Gaga!

Have any of you seen this fine piece of woman live?! Did you like her?
